All the Great Characteristics of Growing and Feeding Open Pollinated Corn for Grazing or Silage

  1. High Feed Value — High protein in the 11 to 12 % range. Open Pollinated corn also is high in minerals, vitamins, amino acids and sugars. These valuable nutrients are in the entire plant as well as the grain thus making this corn excellent for silage, grazing and feed.
  2. Nutrients — One of the most digestible corns with at least 80% of the corn being bio-available again this includes the entire plant not just the grain.
  3. Natural Disease & Pest Resistance — This is due to its diverse population-meaning each plant has its own individual characteristics which gives some plants their own natural resistance to disease and pests.
  4. High Sugar Content — The high sugars in this corn aid in fighting disease and pests as well as making the plant more attractive to animals as feed.
  5. Whole Plant Feed Value — Open pollinated corn has high feed value and palatability in the stalks and leaves as well as the grain.
  6. Less Fertilizer — This corn grows well on less fertilizers due to its extensive root system and its natural hardiness. Well manured soil or 70 to 100 pounds of nitrogen are typical amounts needed.
  7. Yield — The yield on this corn is good and considering that the whole plant is a quality product and available to the animal as feed with lower input costs this corn is an economical feed.
  8. Population — It is recommended that the planting population be between 26000 plants per acre. At this population each plant has the chance to perform at its maximum without overcrowding and reducing feed value and protein.
  9. Standability — This corn will stand well if harvested on time or used as silage.
  10. Grazing — Cattle will choose open pollinated corn first.

    • Yes we do Deliveries to different areas of Saskatchewan and we will meet people on the highway or near their place or if it’s a large order, we will try and accommodate into a yard. There’s a small charge per bag, which mainly just covers our fuel cost.
